I was born in 1948 in Augsburg, Germany. My parents were Jewish refugees from Poland, and alleged holocaust survivors. I have a B.A. in history and a M.A. in International Relations.
Even though “I didn’t have any college experience in journalism, and never took a course,” I started my long career in journalism in the early 1970s in the Tel Aviv bureau of the Jewish owned Reuters news agency. From there I went to work as a Washington correspondent for the English language newspaper Jerusalem Post. While with the Post, I covered the arrest and trial of fellow Jew Jonathan Pollard, arrested for conspiracy to deliver national defense information to a foreign government - Israel. I wrote a book titled Territory of Lies: The Exclusive Story of Jonathan Jay Pollard: The American Who Spied on His Country for Israel and How He Was Betrayed.
In the mid-1970s I also worked for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, also known as AIPAC, as the editor of their publication, the Near East Report. AIPAC is considered by many to be an illegal unregistered foreign agent working within the United States. Any politician who expects to be elected must get the approval blessing of AIPAC, who receives millions of dollars annually from wealthy Jewish contributors.
In mid-1990, I worked as the military affairs reporter for a major cable news network.
My team covered the first Gulf War in Kuwait and I won the Cable Ace Award which made me a very popular news personality. I also earned an Emmy Award for my coverage of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. In 1998 I started hosting a Sunday morning interview program which was viewed in over 180 countries.
In 2000 I started anchoring my own show on this major cable news network and in 2004 I was the anchor for the presidential election. I now host a three hour afternoon newscast for the same network with a reported 410,000 viewers. I recently hosted a weeklong series called Roots. During this series I claim that both sets of my grandparents were gassed in the alleged holocaust in Auschwitz.
Many people believe that I remain an AIPAC lobbyist and should not be reporting news related to Israel.
